Newport
At a Glance: Newport is a small, friendly, industrious town nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains. Population: 6,346.

Nick-named the "Sunshine Town" by vaudevillian Billy B. Van, it is located between interstates 89 and 91, making access easy.

Overview: The Town Common, one of the largest in the state, provides wonderful space for activities and events all year long with ice skating in the winter and free Sunday evening concerts in the summer.

This old mill town includes elaborate buildings from the 19th century including an Opera House and Congregational Church. Be sure to visit the three covered bridges in town as well as the Library Arts Center.

Lake Sunapee also provides opportunities to enjoy water-related activities during the summer. Several parks in the area accommodate hiking, picnicking, and swimming, in addition to the extremely popular NH Rails-to-Trails paths that meander through our woods and along our rivers.
